 States Press for Electronic Recycling LawsOctober 1, 2009 More and more states are searching for solutions to combat the issue of pollution from electronic waste. Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A growing number of states are turning to legal means to combat the problem of electronic waste pollution. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), several states have already passed laws requiring unwanted electronics to be recycled as opposed to simply being thrown out. As noted by the AP, the response by manufacturers in some states with regards to these laws has been less than supportive. Several oppose those which may require them to provide free collection for a limited amount of waste. Barbara Kyle with the Electronics Takeback Coalition, is quoted in the report as stating of the view that electronics manufacturers are seeking more uniform federal laws with less provisions than the state laws have, “They talk about how much they want a federal bill, but what they want is a weak federal bill. They don’t want to have to do what the state laws are making them do.” As further noted in the report, there has yet to be an e-waste bill to pass in Congress.
