Fijian Tribe Defends Oceania Cup
Fiji Junior Tribe team defeated Nauru Stars 34- 21 in the final of the AFL Oceania U15 Cup competition at Albert Park yesterday.
The side recorded their second title win in a row and is confident to make the highest number of players selected for the final South Pacific team to compete at the 2019 Queensland State Championship in April.
Fiji Junior Tribe coach Loata Vakausausa was overwhelmed with the performance.
“I feel we were able to win because we had a very good side eventhough we lacked abit on the discipline aspect but we managed to do it,” Vakausausa said
“The team in general has been tremendously doing well as far as their performance is concerned but they are developing slowly throughout.
“We have been conducting clinics in schools and communities on promoting this sport and the feedback has been great, and we hoping this sport will get the recognition it deserves in the years to come.
“One of the greatest challenge I faced as a coach was changing the mindset of the boys from playing rugby to Australian Football League.
“We are looking forward to fielding in about 15 players from the team for our final squad that will represent the South Pacific team at the 2019 Queensland State Championship in Australia in April.”
