Best films about Central Asia announced in Almaty. Kyrgyz film among them

Bishkek, Dec. 13, 2018. /Kabar/. The Central Asian Documentary Film Festival (CADF) has ended in Almaty.

The competition of documentary films about Central Asia was held by the Clique Film Festival, BNews reported citing the official page of the film festival on Facebook.

24 works from over 60 applications had been selected for the competition. Among them are short and full-length films by directors from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Germany, the Netherlans and other countries. The main topics are ecology, labor migration, independence, human rights, deportation and the search for identity.

Documentary film entitled “Harvest Moon” became the best at the festival. This work directed by Zaheed Mawani is his debut full-length film. In addition to the Grand Prix, "Harvest Moon" received another prize - the work of camera operator Sebastian Hiriart was named the best.

Denis Shabaev was named the best director for the documentary film “Not My Job”, which narrates about a young Tajik guy.

Moreover, the jury took note of short films "The Hermit" by Kyrgyz director Aizada Aliyeva and "The Botanist" by Canadians Maude Plante-Husaruk and Maxime Lacoste-Lebuis.

A special jury prize was awarded for film “I am not sick, I am gay” by Alexej Getmann, which narrates the story of Denis - an openly gay guy from Temirtau.
