The sporting community, alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is mourning the return of the body of a great athlete and Olympian from France, Josaia Raisuqe.
Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru says the late Raisuqe will be accorded the same ceremonial protocol given to Team Fiji delegations returning from international sporting events.
He said that various stakeholders and organizations have been working closely to ensure Raisuqe’s body is returned home.
Saukuru says his body will arrived in Nadi today, and will be taken to the CWM mortuary and later transported to his village of Lutu in Naitasiri tomorrow.
An emotional Saukuru expressed deep sorrow, saying the entire nation stands with Raisuqe’s family as they grieve the loss of a remarkable rugby player, a proud ambassador of Fijian sport, and someone who brought immense pride to his family, village, province, and country on the world stage.
Saukuru says it is a difficult day for Fiji and the entire sporting community.
Raisuqe will be laid to rest tomorrow in his village in Lutu.
