Azerbaijan is in the process of nationalization of Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai said on September 25.

He made the remarks at the international conference on “The role of Milli Majlis in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan.”

Isaczai said it is very good that some time ago the Azerbaijani President established the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development of Azerbaijan. He noted that the creation of such a council can be a great contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

At the same time, the Milli Majlis (Parliament) has a lot of work to do, Isaczai said.

“Several events have already taken place in this direction, and I believe that they will have a long-term character,” he pointed out.

The UN resident coordinator reminded that there are still serious problems in the world related to the Sustainable Development Goals, there are people who suffer from poverty and hunger.

“Therefore, each country should understand its responsibility in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and it is very good that Azerbaijan has achieved great success in this direction,” Isaczai stressed.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 global goals set by the UN. The Goals cover a broad range of social and economic development issues, such as poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, environment and social justice.
