Channing made several trips to New Hampshire, something that Granite Staters won't forget.

"There was just something direct and true about her. There wasn't a phony bone in her body," author Paul Brogan said.

Brogan knew her well and got her to perform in New Hampshire twice.

Channing performed at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord in 2007, raising thousands of dollars for the organization.

"I mean at 86 she was up dancing on the stage at the Capitol Center during her performance," Brogan said.

"Her show was one of the funniest evenings I have ever spent here. She was hilarious and talented and everything thing you think she would be," said Katie Collins, of the Capitol Center.

Channing then returned to New Hampshire a year later to perform in Portsmouth, helping to raise even more money for the organization.

"It was obvious that people mattered, and I don't think she would have had a career of 70 years unless she subscribed to that philosophy herself," Brogan said.
